Marlys Schumacher

Marlys B. Schumacher, age 91, of Springfield, Minnesota died on January 22, 2019, at Wabasso Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Wabasso.

Visitation and funeral service were held at the Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, Jan. 26. Pastor David Fretham officiated at the 11 a.m. service.  Interment was in the Springfield City Cemetery.

Marlys B. Schumacher was born on Oct. 21, 1927, to John and Elizabeth (Kunze) Kissner in Eden Township, Brown County, Minnesota.  Marlys was baptized and then confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. She was a graduate of Sleepy Eye High School in 1945. On Jan. 4, 1947, Marlys was united in marriage to Adrian Schumacher at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was active in the LWML and the Altar Guild. Marlys enjoyed flowers and gardening, fishing, going to garage sales, and her pets. 

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Bruce) Metteer of Olivia and Annette (Donald “Butch”) Zarbock of Springfield; grandchildren, Scott Metteer (fiancée Reane), Angela Metteer, Keith Metteer, Bryon Metteer (wife Jenn), Jay Zarbock (friend Mariana), and Jill Lang (friend Rick); great-grandchildren, Audryanna Metteer, Caitlin Lang, and Zander Metteer; and brother-in-law, Father Paul Schumacher; and sisters-in-law, Mary Griffin and Frannie Schumacher. Marlys was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian, in 1997; and brothers, Warren, Charles, and Curtis Kissner.
