Mary Ann Davis

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Ann Davis, 92, of Sanborn, was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 6, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Sanborn with the Rev. Phil Scholtzko officiating. Interment was in the Sanborn City Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis died on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Minneota Manor in Minneota.

Mary Ann Vogel Davis was born Feb. 21, 1925, to John and Anna Vogel on the family farm southeast of Sanborn in Stately Township, Brown County, Minnesota. Mary Ann attended St. Raphael Catholic Church where she was baptized. She attended country school No. 71 in Stately Township through sixth-grade and graduated from Sanborn High School in 1943. She then attended one year of teacher training in Blue Earth. Mary Ann taught two years in rural school No. 53 south of Sanborn. On June 12, 1946, Mary Ann married C. Warren Davis. The couple farmed near Sanborn for 25 years until moving into Sanborn in 1970. The couple operated the Sanborn Cafe until 1975 when they purchased Sunset Bar and Grill in Ruthton. In 1980, they purchased the Roadside Bar and Lounge in Taunton. In 1985, the couple moved back to Sanborn. Mary Ann enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, cards, visiting with family and friends, and traveling. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and Watermelon Days. Mary Ann started the Senior Dining in Sanborn and also drove for Western Community Action for 14 years. She was honored as Outstanding Senior Citizen in Redwood County.

She is survived by her children, C. Ronald (Roberta) Davis of Springfield, Michael Davis of Marshall, Kathryn (Eugene) Stern of Bridgeville, Delaware, Bradley (Judy) Davis of Carrollton, Texas, Rachel (Arne) Petersen of Roswell, New Mexico, Don (Ana) Davis of Nebraska City, Nebraska, Dean (Carol) Davis of Corpus Cristi, Texas, and Diane (Richard) Myhre of Minneota; 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren  and one-great-great grandchild.; brother, Gerhardt Vogel of San Diego, Calif.; sister-in-law, and  Marianne Vogel of St. Peter. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, C. Warren Davis; brother, Raymond Vogel; and a sister, Deloris Kastner.
