Mildred Weckwerth

 

Mildred Weckwerth, 81, of Springfield, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at her home.

Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 22, at Zion Lutheran Church with Chaplain Noel Wetter officiating.  Interment was in Springfield City Cemetery. 

Mildred Weckwerth was born August 7, 1935, in Mulligan Township, Brown County, Minnesota, to Herman and Marie (Hanson) Sandmeyer. Mildred attended school in Comfrey until her family moved to St. James in 1952. While in St. James, she worked at Tony Down Foods and the Crescent Cafe. Mildred was united in marriage to Lloyd Weckwerth on May 6, 1955, at the First Lutheran Church in St. James. The couple resided in rural Springfield. After their children were in school, Mildred went to Sleepy Eye before going to work at Control Data in Redwood Falls until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, quilting, and working with flowers. Mildred especially enjoyed time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by children, Doreen Weckwerth of St. James, Robert and wife Stephanie Weckwerth of Farmington, and Debra and husband Ross McDermott of Crystal; grandchildren, Kayla McDermott, and Preston, Colton, Keaton, and Allison Weckwerth; sisters, Norma (Marlyn) Sieg of South Branch, Joyce Sandmeyer of St. James, and Mary Ellen Sandmeyer of St. James; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Sandmeyer of St. James and Lorraine Polzin of New Ulm, Lorna Weedman of New Ulm, and Judy Kelley of Minneapolis; brother-in-law Arnie Weckwerth of New Ulm; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd, in January of 2016; brothers, Jerry and Norman Sandmeyer; and sisters, Doris Mae Ayers and LaVonne Schroeder.
