Phyllis Rolloff
Funeral Service for Phyllis Rolloff, 99, of New Ulm, was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 7, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Pastor Jeffrey Bovee officiated, and burial was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Mrs. Rolloff passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at New Ulm Medical Center after a brief illness.
Phyllis Inez Runck was born on May 28, 1918, to Phillip and Bertha (Kosel) Runck, and raised in rural Springfield, Brown County, Minnesota. She married Arley Rolloff of New Ulm on September 25, 1939. They lived and farmed in Milford Township while raising their two sons. For a time she worked at Kraft in New Ulm and in later years worked as a daytime bartender for her son at Carl’s Corner in Essig where she coordinated the weekly Sheephead Tournaments on Tuesday nights. She had been a resident at Orchard Hills for five years before moving to Oak Hills Living Center in 2011.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Lida Rolloff; daughter-in-law, Marion Rolloff and her special friend, Mert Gustad, of New Ulm; her grandchildren, Eva and Joel Carlson of Oakdale, Eric and Jennifer Rolloff of Big Lake, Robb and Kathleen Rolloff of New Ulm and Aaron Rolloff and Katie Seegers of Hopkins; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Marilyn Rolloff of New Ulm. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arley; her son, Jim Rolloff; her siblings, and her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Phyllis’s first love was playing cards and entertaining her family and friends. She enjoyed nature, gardening, cooking and had a love of antiques. She had a marvelous sense of humor and loved telling jokes. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Milford Wayside Workers Extension Club.
