Ralph Schunk

Ralph Schunk, 93, died Sunday, February 1, 2015, at Gil Mor Manor in Morgan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 5, at St. Raphael Catholic Church with the Rev. Phil Schotzko officiating.  Interment will be in St. Raphael Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.  Thursday, February 5, at St. Raphael Church.

Ralph John Schunk was born March 2, 1921, on the family farm in Bashaw Township, Brown County, Minnesota to John and Lucy (Hickel) Schunk. Ralph farmed all of his life in Bashaw Township where he also raised a small herd of cattle. He retired in 1987 and moved to an apartment in Springfield. Ralph later moved to Gil Mor Haven, then to Gil Mor Manor in Morgan. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Springfield and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, traveling on the tour bus, and watching car races. Ralph also enjoyed playing cards, watching wildlife, and eating any kind of pie.

He is survived by sister, Bernadine Mathiowetz of Morgan; nieces, Joanne (David) Simonsen of Morgan, Luann Hammerschmidt of St. Cloud, and Lavonne (Mark) Gilbertson of Burnsville; and nephew, Kenneth (Deborah) Mathiowetz of Morgan. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores Hammerschmidt; and nephew, Thomas Hammerschmidt.
