Richard LeFebre

Richard LeFebre, 87, of Litchfield died Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Meeker Memorial Hospital.  

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, at the United Methodist Church in Litchfield, where he was a member for many years.  

Richard was born on June 21, 1929, in Lodgepole, S.D., to Cornelius and Ruth LeFebre.  He attended school in Hettinger, N.D. Richard was a proud member of the United States Air Force and served our country in the Korean War.  His time served in the Air Force sparked a passion for aviation and Richard enjoyed years of being a licensed private pilot.  After the war he moved to Rapid City, S.D., where he met Marianne Schaefer, and they were married on Jan. 17, 1957.  They resided in Springfield, and raised four children.  In 1977 they moved to New Ulm and in 2000 they retired in Litchfield.  He was a member of the Pipe Fitters local 455 Union and enjoyed working in that trade for many years. 

Richard was a member of Gideons International in Litchfield.  He believed very strongly in the mission of the Gideons, bringing the word of God to everyone.  He was instrumental in bringing jail ministry to Meeker County.

Richard and Marianne enjoyed camping with family and, after their children were grown and away, they enjoyed camping with friends.  They were a part of state staff of Good Sam’s for four years.

He is survived by his wife, Marianne; children, Larry (Kellie) LeFebre of Lonsdale,  Cathy (James) Haugo of Litchfield, Jay LeFebre of Litchfield, and Cindy (Kraig) Westendorf of Albert Lea; 10 grandchildren and seven great –grandchildren; a brother, James (Bev) LeFebre of Lodgepole, S.D., and sister, Fern Stuart of Piedmont, S.D.; several nieces, nephews and many friends.  Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Ruth; two sisters; a brother-in-law; a niece and a nephew.   

Memorials are preferred to Alzheimer’s Association, Meeker Manor or Meeker Memorial Hospital.
