Richard Schwartz

Funeral service for Richard Schwartz, 79, of Sanborn will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday, September 16) at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield with Chaplain Noel Wetter officiating. Interment will be at the Springfield City Cemetery.

Visitation Tuesday, September 15, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel, will continue at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

Mr. Schwartz died on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Golden Living Center in Wabasso.

Richard Schwartz was born March 19, 1936, to Carl and Loretta (Moeller) Schwartz in Springfield. He married Dorothy Wall on September 8, 1954, in Comfrey. From September 1954 until September 1957, Richard served in the U.S. Army National Guard and in the National Guard Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1962. Richard worked for Ochs Brick & Tile Company, owned a feed mill in Comfrey and Sanborn, and also worked in construction. During the 1980s, Richard and Dorothy owned a bar in Wabasso. He also served several years as a volunteer fireman in Sanborn. Richard enjoyed gardening, tinkering, woodworking, making beef jerky, playing cards, and trips to the casino. Spending time with his family was important to him. Trips with his daughters, brother, and nieces to Colorado for white water rafting were always enjoyed. 

He is survived by children,  Rhonda (Joe) Dehmlow of Wahpeton, N.D., Sheila (Randy) Lipinski of New London, Rick (Shelly) Schwartz of Prior Lake, Roxie Radel of Sanborn, and Jodi (Michael) Rindfleisch of Pennock;  grandchildren, Ben (Wendy) Dehmlow and their children  Mason, Tucker, Kadin, and Preston; Mandy (Dan) Moiser and their children Mya, Ethan, and Ellie; Samantha (Wes) Nelson and their children Adriella, Jay and Riley; Chad (Amy) Schwartz and their children Cooper and Maddie; Josh (Catherine) Schwartz; Jason (Ashley) Schwartz and their children Kinnley, Tate and Griffin; Shannon Rindfleisch; Jerry (Scooter) Thiesse; and Marco Dion and son  Christian; brothers, Harold and Dave; extended family, Doug and Teresa Johnson and their children Benjamin and Matthew and Donna and Randy Simmons. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy, in March; sisters, Gladys Zihlke, Sharon Hagert and Jean Plamann; grandsons, Stephen and Bradley; and parents-in-law, Walter and Bertha (Finger) Wall.
