For 94 years, Bob Potter faithfully did the work he was put on this earth to do. Great Grandson of one of Springfield, Minnesota’s homesteading families.

Bob spent all of those 94 years in Springfield, building the family farm and serving his community. Only his service in World War II took him away from that work. Never fancy or flashy, Bob was reliable, responsible and rock steady. He got the job done.

Robert Dennis Potter was born on November 27, 1925 in the Springfield Hospital. He was the youngest child and only son of Walter and Alma Potter. Bob grew up on the family farm just West of Springfield, using both tractors and draft horses to do his work. When World War II came along, Bob enlisted and helped defend his Country as a B-24 tail gunner stationed in Europe. At the end of the war, Bob returned home and shortly thereafter he met Lorraine Jensen, a farm girl from Evan, Minnesota. Bob and Lorraine were united in marriage on February 9. 1951 in Evan. Together, they farmed the Potter farm and raised two boys, Dennis and David.

Bob was very active in the Minnesota Pork Producers and served as treasurer of North Star township. He was a lifelong member of the Springfield Methodist Church, Eastern Star Masonic Lodge and American Legion. In later years, he devoted time to the Springfield Historical Society. Bob and Lorraine were united in marriage for 56 years before Lorraine’s passing in 2007. After Lorraine’s passing life was never the same, but Bob carried on and eventually found care and comfort at St. John’s Circle of Care – located on the site of the hospital in which he was born.

On January 20, 2020, Bob Potter finished his work in this world. He is survived by his sons Dennis (Lucy) Potter and David (Darwin Lookingbill) Potter, granddaughters Jessica (Jonathan O’Neill) Potter and Erin (John) Lafferty, and three great grandchildren Kierin and Kiera Lafferty and Caitlyn O’Neill. Bob was preceded in death by mother and father in law Arthur and Marietta Jensen, parents Walter and Alma Potter, wife Lorraine Potter, grandson Nathan Potter and sister June Roiger.
