Robert ‘Bob’ Zangel

Robert "Bob" Frank Zangel, 78, of Comfrey, died on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.



Service will be held at the Sturm Funeral Home, Comfrey Chapel, at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4. 

Friends may call on the family from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Sturm Funeral Home, Comfrey.



Robert Frank Zangel was born on Dec. 16, 1935, in New Ulm, the son of Aloysius "Dave" and Helen (Postel) Zangel. He grew up and attended high school in New Ulm. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 until his discharge in 1958. He was united in marriage to Pauline Suess on June 11, 1960, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Church in New Ulm. Robert was a sheet metal worker in the New Ulm area until 1980. After an injury he was the maintenance supervisor at the Marketplatz Mall in New Ulm, retiring in the late 90s. He opened Prairie Rose Antiques in 1996 and operated it for 10 years. Robert was a master carpenter, he loved wood working, football, collecting carnival glass, going to casinos and especially loved being with family.


Survivors include his wife, Pauline; son, Shannon (special friend Jenny Bueker) of Gibbon; grandchildren, Brett (special friend, Jessica Schaefer) and Jayde, great-grandson, Jaymen, sisters, Dorothy Frederick of New Ulm, Marion (Gerald) Scheibel of Searles, Kathleen Zangel of Phoenix and brother, Thomas (Corrine) Zangel of Mankato. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elaine Iverson; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Freiderick.


Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey, Minnesota.
