Roger Grunig

A Celebration of Life Service for Roger Grunig, 93, of Springfield and formerly of Comfrey, was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at the St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield with Chaplain Noel Wetter officiating.  Burial was in the Springfield Cemetery.

Roger Grunig died on Wednesday, July 18, at the St. John Lutheran Home.

Roger D. Grunig was born Oct. 29, 1924, to Ralph and Anna W. (Helkenn) Grunig on the family farm west of Comfrey. He received his education in the Comfrey Public Schools; graduating with the Class of 1942. On October 2, 1949, Roger was united in marriage to Dorothy Johnson at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers. This marriage was blessed with one son, Farley. In Roger’s early years, he worked for his dad on the home farm and later had his own farm. He then worked for Bose Ford Motors and the State Bank of Jeffers and retired Dec. 31, 1995.  Roger and Dorothy made their home in Comfrey.   Roger was a resident of the St. John Lutheran Home for several years. 

Roger is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Grunig of Comfrey; one son, Farley Grunig of Bingham Lake; two grandchildren, Brad Grunig and Bethanie (Clint) Leonard of Taemania, Australia; three great-grandsons, Niccolo and Jax Grunig, London Leonard; and many nieces, nephews and friends. 

Roger is preceded in death by a sister, Gladius; three brothers, Eugene, Leonard and Lawrence; and daughter-in-law, Gail (Liesenfeld) Grunig.
