Sister Lorraine Landkammer, OSF

Sister Lorraine Landkammer, 97, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, MN, died at Assisi Heights, Monday, November 8, 2021.

Lorraine was born in 1924 to Frank and Theresa (Matter) Landkammer. After graduating from Springfield High School, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1944, received the name of Sister Gratia.  She earned a B.S.E. degree in Elementary Education and a B.A. degree in History and Spanish at the College of Saint Teresa, Winona, MN. Further studies included holistic training and certification as a Natural Therapeutic Specialist.

In 1947, Sister Lorraine began her extensive elementary teaching ministry at parochial schools in Chicago, IL; Adams, Winona, Sleepy Eye, Springfield MN, and Silver Springs, MD.  She also taught in  Bogotá, Colombia for seven years. In 1973, Sister Lorraine returned to Springfield to teach, do parish ministry, and be near her family for three years.

After teaching, Sister Lorraine was trained in holistic healing and utilized these skills for the next 16 years in New Mexico.  She retired to Assisi Heights in 2003. She loved music, nature and laughter!

Survivors of Sister Lorraine include her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared life for 77 years; one sister-in-law, Helen Landkammer of Springfield and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Wilfred and Robert Landkammer; sister, Helen Heiderscheidt; and in-laws, Nicholas Heiderscheidt and Emilie Landkammer.

A private Funeral Liturgy will be held at Assisi Heights on November 17 with burial of her cremains at Calvary Cemetery.
