Sylvester ‘Vesty’ Kotten

 

Sylvester “Vesty” Joseph Kotten, 85, of Sleepy Eye, died on December 3, 2015, at his home.
 

A graveside service was held on Saturday, December 12, at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.

The Rev. Andy Michels officiated.  Sylvester “Vesty” Joseph Kotten was born December 25, 1929, the son of John and Theckla (Ruffing) in Home Township. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Hengel on November 27, 1956, at St. Mary’s Church in Sleepy Eye. 

Vesty enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards and watching Minnesota Vikings games and western movies. One of his many passions was dairy farming. When he was younger he did a lot of fishing. Vesty was involved in NFO and the U.S. Army and during that time he received a National Defense Service medal. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye.
 

Vesty is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; children, Dianne (Brian) Raddatz of Redwood Falls, Dorinda (Dale) Roiger of Springfield, James (Diane) of Sleepy Eye, Ronald of North Mankato, David (Christine) of Sleepy Eye, Joseph (Stacy) of Essig, Andy (Christina) of Burnsville, and Jacob of Sleepy Eye. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Emily, Jessica and Dylan Raddatz, Amanda Roiger, Laura, Aimee and Erin Kotten, Cory and Chad Robertson, Marah, Ryan and Stephanie Kotten, Joshua, Justin and Jeniffer Kotten, Emma, Maggie, Eric, Noah, Eli and Isaac Kotten, Daniel, Timothy and Michael Kotten; his brother, Ivan, and sisters, Viola and Marie. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bernice; brother-in-laws, Bob Jones, Art Watkins, Harold Mutch and Larry Wittrock; sister-in-law, Florence Kotten, toddler sister Iona; and grandson, Samuel Kotten.

Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
