Vera Bloedow

Vera Bloedow, age 87, of Springfield died on September 26, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN. 

Private family services are planned.

Vera Mae Bloedow was born on May 3, 1934, to Earl and Lela (Hixson) Dobson in Sioux Falls, SD. When Vera was 14, her family moved to Springfield where she worked at The Sweet Shop. On November 10, 1950, she married Bernard Hornick. The couple moved to Rolla, MO while Bernie was in the service. After they returned to Springfield, Vera worked at the Springfield Hospital as a nurse’s aide. Vera and Bernie purchased the Rainbow Café and also Hornick Mobile Milling which later became Hornick Farm Supply. Vera helped Bernie with his Prudential business as well. After Bernie’s death, Vera married Lyle Bloedow in Springfield on June 2, 1984. Vera enjoyed spending many weekends at Lake Amelia. She greatly enjoyed time with her family, grandkids, and great grandkids and looked forward to their next visit. Her interests were knitting, crocheting, reading, gardening, playing cards, and ceramics. She was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church where she was a member of the CCW and was a member of the Springfield American Legion Auxiliary. 

She is survived by her daughter Peggy (Ron) Groebner of Springfield; stepchildren - Dianne (Steve) Lipetzky of Springfield, Pat (Joe) Grapevine of Coon Rapids, Steve (Judy) Bloedow of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren - Amy (Kyle) Ramaker and Sara (Andrew) Lang; step grandchildren - Joel Lipetzky, Sara Lipetzky, Andrew Lipetzky, Kristin Lipetzky, Bill Grapevine, Katie Grapevine, Sam Bloedow, Cassie Everts, Jake Bloedow; 5 great granddaughters and 32 step great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Bernice Galush. Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husbands - Bernard Hornick and Lyle Bloedow; daughter Julie Ann Hornick; brothers - Gerald Dobson and Dale Dobson; and step great grandson Christopher Lipetzky.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Allina Hospice or St. John Lutheran Home.
