Verina R. Nelson, 89, of Albert Lea and formerly of Springfield, died Jan. 5, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Verina was March 7, 1925, in Wentworth, S.D. She married Martin Nelson and the couple farmed near Ramona, S.D. They later moved to Springfield where she taught at Springfield Public Elementary School for more than 20 years. In 2009, the Nelsons moved to Albert Lea to be close to family. Martin died in April of 2013.
Surviving are children, Cheryl (Ben) Schultz of Apple Valley, Bob (Donna) Nelson of Alden, Roger (Cindy) Nelson of Gilbert, and Craig (Kristen) Nelson of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
