Aliza Griffis, a fifth-grader at Springfield Elementary School, is spelling champion at Springfield Public School. She is the daughter of the late Jonathon Griffis, and lives with her aunt, Martha Coffland. Runner-up was Ashley Nystrom, an eighth-grader, daughter of Anthony Nystrom and Rene Lord.They were two of 16 students from grades 5-8 who participated in the local leven competiton of the National Scripps Spelling Bee the afternoon of February 9.
