Elementary students selected for All-Star Choir

Five Springfield Public Elementary students were selected to participate in Minnesota Music Educators Association Elementary All-Star Choir.  This was the second year of the event held during the MMEA Midwinter Clinic. The five students are Harley Smith, Brynn Wilhelmi, Delanie Honeman, Everly Jensen and Tanner Petersen.

“I nominated the students and they were accepted into the choir,” Andrea Berends, Elementary music teacher, stated.  “The requirements are that the kids had to be in grades 4-6, can sing in tune, can sing 2-3 part treble material and are serious about a fun and rewarding day of making music,” she added.  The students worked with Ms. Berends after school, once a week, for two months to learn the music.

“The Elementary All-Star Choir was created to provide elementary music students throughout Minnesota with a learning and performance opportunity at the annual Midwinter Clinic.

The All-Star Choir event was held Saturday, February 15 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.  Students rehearsed with esteemed music educator, Dr. Angela Kasper, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and then performed a concert on stage at 3:30 p.m.
