It’s Tiger Trek time!!

by Jeff Krueger

The sixteenth annual Tiger Trek, sponsored by PAWS (Parents Aligned With Schools) to raise funds for enhancements at the Springfield Elementary School, will be held Friday, September 24, 2021.  Students are busy collecting donations and pledges for the event.  $18,572.05 was raised in last year’s Tiger Trek.

In the past, donations were used to fulfill many faculty requests including:  playground equipment, accelerated reading prizes, field trips, books, website and app fees, classroom science projects, flexible seating, Heart of Tiger t-shirts, school supplies, art supplies and so much more.  Donations collected this year will be used for a lot of the same purposes.

In the past, the Tiger Trek was a bicycling event.  In 2020, due to COVID, the event changed to a run/walk event and that will continue this year with a Color Run.  Color Runs are a new way to spice up a fundraising walk/run event by sprinkling colored powder on the participants at various points on the event route.  Staff and parents are encouraged to join in on the “colorful” fun.

All Springfield Elementary students in Kindergarten-6th grade have received pledge envelopes and are accepting donations and pledges for the Tiger Trek until September 15.  Online donations will also be accepted by going to

There will be no big prizes for top Tiger Trek fundraisers this year, but each participating student will receive a t-shirt donated by PAWS and local sponsors.  There will also be Pledge Challenges between each classroom at school to see who can raise the most funds.

The “Tiger Trek Color Run” will be held in the morning September 24 and the fifth annual “Tigers Give Back” event will be held in the afternoon.  While the elementary students reap the benefits of the trek donations with the morning event, the afternoon will find them helping out in the community to say thanks for the wonderful support.
