Moriarty named Springfield Teacher of the Year

Jill Moriarty has been named the 2024 Teacher of the Year at Springfield Public School by the Springfield Education Association. A member of the faculty for eleven years, she feels honored and humbled to be selected for the distinction by her peers.
Jill grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota and graduated from Kennedy High School. She attended Normandale Community College and later transferred to Minnesota State University-Mankato. Following college, she worked as a paraprofessional and substitute teacher in the Edina and Belle Plaine school districts before getting a full-time teaching position in Norwood-Young America where she taught two years of second grade, three years of third grade and coached the dance team. “In 2012, after moving to Springfield, I spent one year at home with my sons, Aiden and Max, before being hired to teach first grade in Springfield. After one year of first grade, I was moved to fourth grade where I am finishing up my tenth year,” she said in a recent interview.
Moriarty enjoys being an elementary teacher. “I enjoy developing relationships with the kids. I love getting to know them and their personalities!” she said. “I also love inspiring kids to want to read and help them develop a love of reading,” she added. That inspiration develops by reading lots of great books, playing lots of games, having reading challenges along with creative plays and fun writing projects in her classroom.
