River Valley Speech at State

A total of five students from the River Valley speech team participated in the MSHSL Class A State Speech tournament held at Eastview High School in Apple Valley on Saturday, April 23.  This year’s participants included senior Sydne Wahl in drama, junior Sarah Kottke in prose, junior Joseph Jensen in humorous interpretation and the duo team composed of eighth grader, Lily Pigeon and seventh grader, Leo Hovland.  On Thursday prior to the tournament, the five state participants and their coaches were treated to a state “send-off” from the student body. Students and teachers lined the hallways throughout the school, cheering and giving well-wishes to the state speakers as they walked by.  Following this send off, the qualifying students were able to perform their speeches for junior high and high school audiences. 

The students and coaches departed Friday morning and were able to take in some outstanding speeches at the Class AA State Speech tournament that day.
