Russell Beers is 2020 spelling bee champion at Public School

Russell Beers, a  seventh grade student is the 2020 spelling champion at Springfield Public School as part of the Scripps Spelling Bee competition. 

Runner up and alternate was Christopher Boss, a fifth grade student.

Seventeen students, the top spellers in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 determined by an earlier spelling test, participated in the single elimination oral spelling bee in the school auditorium on Tuesday afternoon Jan. 21. The students spelled on stage in front of their classmates, families and friends. 

Some of the students competing were alternates as there were many unable to participate due to illness. The following students were unable to compete in the Bee as they were out sick. 5th Grade--Erik Davis, 6th Grade--Shawn Olson and Katie Thram, 8th Grade--Easton Jensen, Gabe Weber, Ellie Tonn, and Jakob Nachreiner.
