“It was September and there was a town.”

The year is 1916 in Erwin, Tennessee. Erwin is known for two things; its railroad and its people. Not every town has a railroad, and the fact that Erwin does sets it apart from the other small towns in Tennessee. Having a railroad means that people can come and go, and with them, progress could. The good people living this town lead calm and quiet lives; nothing major ever happens there, both to the delight and despair of Erwin’s residents. That is, until the circus comes to town.
