Speakers participate in large PAS Arrows tournament

On Saturday, Feb. 10, the River Valley Speech team traveled to Pipestone for the PAS Arrows tournament.  It was a large tournament with 21 teams present and more than 330 student entries.

The duo team comprised of juniors, Sarah Dunn and Colton Jensen, took second place in duo interpretation.

Placing fourth in their categories was senior, Briana Schmidt, in original oratory, and senior, Kaitlyn Vogel in informative speaking.

Freshman, Libby Tonn and senior, Brianna Platz were both one point from making the finals in their respective categories of extemporaneous speaking and prose.  They both earned blue ribbons for this accomplishment.  Earning red ribbons for being two points from finals were freshman, Kendall Kelly in poetry and senior, Kaitlyn Vogel, who was double entered in great speeches.

This week the team will travel to Redwood Falls on Saturday for the Redwood Valley tournament.  This year’s speech team is composed of 30 students from both Sleepy Eye Public and Springfield Public Schools.  This year’s coaching staff includes head coach, Brianna Jensen, who is being assisted by Springfield’s Darcy Hoyt and Cody Schwartz.
