Springfield Elementary Recognized as National ESEA Distinguished School

Late last year, Springfield Elementary School was named a National ESEA Distinguished School for its outstanding success in student achievement, particularly in closing the achievement gap. The recognition, awarded by the National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators (NAESPA), places Springfield Elementary among an elite group of up to 100 schools nationwide that have demonstrated exceptional academic performance in 2024.

Springfield Elementary was selected as a Category 2 recipient, an honor given to schools that have successfully reduced achievement gaps between student groups. Principal Jeff Kuehn emphasized that the award is a reflection of the school’s commitment to excellence rather than a focus on statistical measures.

“While we understand the calculation, we don’t approach our work with those categories in mind,” Kuehn said. “Our goal is simply to give each child the very best education possible. We aim to make connections, build relationships, and inspire students and families to make learning and high academic achievement a priority. When those efforts bear fruit and we earn this type of recognition, it’s a great honor for the whole school community.”
