Baseball action dominates weekend at Riverside Park

First of two big weekends of Second District American Legion Baseball

John Watson American Legion Post 257 hosted the Second District Baseball Tournament this past weekend at Riverside Park, in Springfield. The first segement of the 8 team double elimination tournament began Friday morning, July 15 and continued through Sunday evening, July 17. 

In the first round of play Minnesota Lake defeated Heron Lake Okbena 8-5, Luverne defeated Truman 8-6, Adrian defeated Wabasso 6-1 and Springfield defeated Blue Earth Winnebago 7-6. In round two of the winners bracket Luverene defeated Minnesota Lake 2-1 and Adrian defeated Springfield 3-2. In the final round of play for the weekend Adrian defeated Luverne  7-4. Adrian will advance to play again on Saturday, July 23 in Springfield.

After suffering a loss to Adrian, Springfield played again on Sunday afternoon  deafeating Truman 4-2. Springfield has advanced in the loser’s bracket and will play again Friday, July 22, 5 p.m. against Wabasso. The winner will advance to play Luverne on Friday at 7:30 p.m. with the winner of that matchup playing Adrian on Saturday, July 23.

The tournament brought many fans to the fine facility in Riverside Park.
