2024-25 Springfield Varsity Boys Basketball Team

Boys Basketball looks forward to season

The Springfield Tiger Boys Basketball team began this season practice on November 25 due to the excellent State Football run. Coming off a 21-8 overall record, 13-3 conference record and tying for 1st place, the team and coaches are looking forward to their new season.

The team is coached by Lance Larson with Mike Vogel, Dillon Schultz and Decker Scheffler as Assistant coaches.

Returning starters include #3 Isaac Fredin-Guard, #5 Bryan Buerkle-Forward and #15 Brayden Sturm-Guard. Brayden, Bryan and Isaac are also this year’s captains.

Along with the captains, this year’s projected starters include: #5 Brecken Heiling -Guard and #32 Aiden Moriarty-Forward.

Coach Larson anticipates that along with the three returning starters, Aiden Moriarty, Brecken Heiling, Dylan Simonson, Parker Kuehn and Madden Lendt will be the ones stepping in and making an impact this season.

One of the team’s strengths is that they have a strong group of players. “We should be fairly deep and able to play 8-10 guys quite a bit depending on match-ups,” said Larson adding, “We also have some guys that can shoot a little bit.”

Larson is looking forward to a good season of basketball where they get better every week, “With the extended football season we know it may take us a few games to get our legs back and get into basketball mode, but we hope to be playing our best basketball come postseason while getting some of the new guys valuable game experience while still competing for the conference and section championships” he concluded.

The first basketball game is scheduled for this Friday, December 6. They’re playing at home against Minnesota Valley Lutheran.  Varsity game begins at 8:00 p.m., JV at 6:00 p.m.
