Redwood-River Valley Wrestling Results
3AA Section Individual
Tournament
Last Friday and Saturday the Redwood-River Valley Badgers competed in the 3AA Section Individual Wrestling Tournament at Dawson. The team performed extremely well, placing ten of their thirteen wrestlers and sending two wrestlers, Kaleb Haase and Chad Maddock, on to the State Tournament.
Owen Bertram wrestled a very solid tournament. He won his first match by pin over the #5 seed and then lost in the semi-finals to the #1 seed. He then won his next match to advance to the 3rd place match and potential true-second match. Owen lost by decision to the #2 seed, placing 4th.
Devin Johnson lost his first match and then stormed back in the consolation bracket defeating several higher ranked opponents. In the third place match, Devin pinned the #3 seed to earn a true second match. In the true second match, Devin lost by a close decision 4-7, and just missed out on the opportunity to wrestle in the State Wrestling Tournament next week.
Mason Rummel pinned his first opponent and advanced on to face the #2 seeded wrestler in the semi-finals. Mason lost a close decision 5-7, but had his opponent on his back—almost pinned late in the second period. Mason won his next two matches to earn third place honors.
Kaleb Haase was the #1 seed and pinned his two opponents. In his first round match, Kaleb pinned his opponent in 4:48. In the championship match, Kaleb wasted no time earning his first trip to the State Tournament, pinning his opponent in :58 seconds.
Heavyweight Chad Maddock went 1-1 and took second in the tournament, qualifying for the State Tournament.
