Springfield American Legion baseball team headed to state tourney

The American Legion baseball team representing Post 257 of Springfield has qualified for the Division II State Baseball Tournament hosted by Pelican Rapids August 3-5.  The tournament will feature eight teams from Minnesota’s ten Legion districts in a single-elimination format.  The tourney will begin with a kick-off banquet Thursday, August 2 at the Bigwood Event Center at Country Inn and Suites in Fergus Falls and will conclude with the championship game Sunday, August 5.

American Legion Baseball began in 1926 in Minnesota and has provided opportunities for over 300,000 players through the years.  This year over 350 teams and over 500 young people participated across the state.  The teams will compete for a chance to participate in the American Legion National Regional Tournament in Wahpeton, North Dakota beginning August 8.

The Division I Tournament, featuring the larger schools in the state, will begin August 2 on four fields in the Edina area.

Congratulations and best of luck to coaches Carter Erickson and Nick Seidl and the entire Springfield American Legion team as they enter state tourney play!
