Springfield blanks Martin County West

The Springfield Tigers hosted Martin County West last Wednesday, Oct. 11, winning 50-0. The game was moved up due to rain.
The Springfield football team has had some historic battles with Martin County West over the last few years, and with only two points scored in the first fifteen minutes of the game, it appeared that the crowd would witness another slugfest. The entire 1st quarter of the game was played in Maverick territory, but the only scoring that the Tigers had to show for it was a 2-point safety when Paytin Johnson tackled the MCW punter in the endzone after the snap went over his head.
During the 2nd quarter, the game took an abrupt turn as the Tigers started to find their offensive groove. Springfield unleased one big play after another as they scored 7 touchdowns over their next 14 offensive plays. By the end of the 3rd quarter the Tiger’s 2-0 lead had exploded to 50-0, which ended up being the final score of the game. Even though it was not the epic contest that we have become accustom to, it was a memorable evening, nonetheless.
