Springfield Legion baseball moves on in sub-state tournament
Coach Carter Erickson and the Springfield Legion Post 257 baseball team traveled to Luverne for Southwest Sub-State action last week. Springfield won 2 of the 3 games played last Thursday, Friday and Saturday. In Thursday’s game, the Legion team came out on top with a 7-3 win over Wells. Henry Scheitel pitched a fine game with the win and Mitchell Leonard hit a 2-run home run. On Friday, Springfield lost to a good Heron Lake-Okabena team 11-2. On Saturday, Springfield bounced back with a fine pitching performance by Mason Leonard, winning the game 10-0 over Maple River. Mason pitched six shutout innings with 1 hit and 7 strikeouts. Elijah Kirschstein pitched the seventh of shutout ball.
Springfield moves on in tournament play. They play Friday, July 26 at 2:30 p.m. in Luverne against Blue Earth. If they win, they will play again at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Congratulations and best of luck to the Legion Baseball team in the tournament!
