Student athletes conditioning in anticipation of fall sports

With spring high school sports cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, local athletes are anticipating and getting ready for the upcoming fall high school sports season.  Students that are going into grades 7-12 now have the opportunity to participate in Strength and Conditioning Workouts at Norm Wilson Field in the sports complex at Riverside Park.  There are two different conditioning workout sessions available.

The morning sessions, led by Chad Hovland, run from 6:30-7:15 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and focus on total body strength, agility and conditioning.  The evening sessions, led by Heidi McCone, run from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and focus on speed training, running form, strength and conditioning.  Students may attend either session, or both, if they can make it work in their summer schedules.  Workouts are open to athletes in any sport, or for those that just want to get in shape.

Anyone interested in joining should go to the Springfield Public School District Home Page and scroll down the announcements to the 2020 Summer Strength and Conditioning Program.  Click on the link there for details on more information and registration.  Students must be registered to participate.

COVID-19 safety procedures are being followed through temperature and health checks, using common groups, lengthy distance between stations, students wearing gloves for stations that involve touching equipment, and other guidelines set forth by the state and local governments.  If you have any questions, please contact Chad Hovland or Heidi McCone.
