Tiger baseball takes third in state tournament

Springfield baseball finished their season by hoisting the third place trophy in the Class A State Tournament last week.

The No. 5 seeded Tigers opened with an 8-3 win over No. 4 South Ridge (21-3) Tuesday, but then ran into a juggernaut in top seeded powerhouse Hayfield (24-0), losing 16-0 Wednesday.    Later that evening, the Tigers dominated No. 3 Randolph (23-1) in the third place game, winning 16-2 to end their season on a high note.  The Tigers final record was 20-8.

Hayfield beat No. 2 New York Mills 7-4 in the state championship game.
