Tiger Boys Basketball
The Springfield Tiger varsity boys basketball team added three more victories to their season record this past week. The Tigers defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 98-60 on February 20, Windom Area 76-62 on February 22 and St. Clair 67-45 on February 23 to end their regular season at 25-1.
Section playoffs begin this week. The Tiger boys are the #1 seed and will play the winner of the #8 seed Truman/ML/GHEC vs. #9 seed USC game on Monday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Springfield. Best of luck to Head Coach Lance Larson and the Tigers in section action!
Tigers 98 MVL 60
The Tigers traveled to New Ulm for a Tomahawk Conference matchup with Minnesota Valley Lutheran last Tuesday evening. The Tigers took control in the first half and went on to defeat the Chargers 98-60. The win put the Tiger season record at 23-1 and their undefeated conference record at 16-0.
In team action, Isaac Fink led the scoring with 29 points along with 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Mitchell Buerkle scored 17 points with 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals while Tanner Vogel scored 11 points with 3 rebounds and 5 assists. Jordan Kieper scored 11 points with 1 rebound, 2 assists and 1 steal while Decker Scheffler scored 10 points with 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Mitchell Leonard scored 8 points with 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal while Nolan Hoveland scored 8 points with 1 rebound, 3 assists and 1 steal. Andrew Beckman scored 2 points with 4 rebounds while teammate Curtis Tauer scored 2 points with 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Elijah Kirschstein added 1 rebound and 2 assists, Ivan Hovland added 1 rebound and 1 assist and Jake Rosenstengel added 1 rebound for the Tiger victory.
Tigers 76 Windom 62
The Tigers traveled to Windom last Thursday evening for a non-conference game with the Windom Area Eagles. The Tigers once again came out on top, defeating the Eagles 76-62, taking their season record to 24-1.
In team action, Isaac Fink scored 29 points with 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals while teammate Tanner Vogel scored 17 points with 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Mitchell Buerkle scored 11 points with 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals while Decker Scheffler scored 9 points with 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Jordan Kieper scored 5 points with 3 rebounds while Mitchell Leonard scored 4 points with 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Nolan Hovland scored 1 point with 4 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals while Blaine Groebner added 6 rebounds and Andrew Beckman added 2 rebounds and 1 steal for the Tiger victory.
Tigers 67 St. Clair 45
The Tigers traveled to St. Clair last Friday evening for a non-conference game against the St. Clair Cyclones. The Tigers defeated the Cyclones 67-45 in the last game of the regular season. The Tigers season record stands at 25-1 and Tomahawk Conference record stands at 16-0.
In team action, Isaac Fink scored 20 points with 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals while Tanner Vogel scored 15 points with 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Teammate Decker Scheffler scored 14 points with 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals while Mitchell Leonard scored 8 points with 8 rebounds and 1 assist. Mitchell Buerkle scored 6 points with 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals while Curtis Tauer scored 2 points with 1 rebound and 1 steal. Ivan Hovland scored 2 points with 1 assist while teammate Andrew Beckman added 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal. Blaine Groebner had 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal while teammates Elijah Kirschstein and Jake Rosenstengel each had 1 rebound.
