Tiger football defeats RRC 31-14

 The Springfield Tiger varsity football team defeated the Red Rock Central Raiders 31-14 last Friday evening in Lamberton.  The Tigers had five touchdowns good for 30 points—two touchdowns from Kale Meendering, two from Austin Wallert and one touchdown from Ben Runck. Tim Rogotzke added a one-point field goal.  The Tigers held the lead at the half 25-7 and went on to the 31-14 victory.

Leading the Tiger offense was Sam Baier with 114 yards passing plus 14 carries good for 22 yards.  Teammate Jevan Richert had 14 yards passing.  Michael O’Callaghan had 14 carries good for 111 yards with Joe Pieschel getting 7 carries for 48 yards.  Jordan Kieper had 4 carries for 29 yards with James Ploeger getting 3 carries good for 21 yards.  Aaron Salonek rushed for 9 yards with Ben Runck rushing for 5 yards.  Leading the pass catching for the Tigers was Kale Meendering with 2 catches good for 100 yards.  Andrew Beckman had 2 catches good for 14 yards with Austin Wallert getting 1 catch for 8 yards.  Jaden Mickelson had 1 catch good for 5 yards with Michael O’Callaghan getting 1 catch good for 1 yard.

On Tiger defense, Joe Pieschel led the way with 14 tackles.  Michael O’Callaghan had 13 tackles with Willy Vanderwerf getting 11 tackles.  Jaden Mickelson and Austin Wallert had 9 tackles each with Mickelson adding 1 sack.  Teammate Nick Klabunde had 8 tackles with Jevan Richert getting 6 tackles.  Michael Gluth and Sam Baier had 4 tackles each with Gluth adding 1 sack.  Kale Meendering had 3 tackles.  Andrew Beckman, Devin Johnson and Brett Berberich had 2 tackles each and Conner Bertram added 1 tackle on the night.

With a 2-1 record, the Tigers will take on the Sleepy Eye Indians at home this Friday evening, September 11.  Best of luck to Head Coach Paul Dunn and the Tiger squad!
