The Springfield Tiger football team scored early and kept the pressure on in a 25-0 shutout over the New Ulm Cathedral Greyhounds.

“Coach Wilhelmi and the defensive staff did a great job of getting our players prepared this week and our players executed the plan very, very well leading to a shutout.  I think what stood out was how the players played with intensity and enthusiasm all four quarters,” stated Head Coach Adam Meyer adding, “ It was awesome as a staff to see different players step up throughout the game whether it was offense, defense, or special teams.” 

Ashtin Johnson started it off for Springfield with a 54 yard touchdown run, putting the Tigers up 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. 

In the second quarter, Jakob Nachreiner connected for a 30-yard pass to MaCoy Krick for a touchdown to put the Tigers up by 12-0 at the half. 

Nachreiner continued to dominate in the third with a 18 yard pass to Brayden Sturm and a 25 yard pass to Carter Olson. An extra point made by Ashtin Johnson put the final score 25-0 . 

Nachreiner threw 232 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. 

Olson brought down five passes for 84 yards and one touchdown, while Krick caught four for 41 yards and a touchdown, and Sturm caught three for 81 yards and one touchdown. 

Johnson carried the ball for 95 yards and one touchdown to lead the ground game. 

Ashton Toll led the defense with 18 tackles while Sturm snagged two interceptions. 

Springfield recorded four sacks; one each by Mitchell Streich, Ashtin Johnson, Sam Rummel, and Grant Kuehn. 

The defense held the Greyhounds to 9 yards passing and 131 yards rushing on 50 carries.
