Tigers capture first place in WWG tournament

The Tiger girls varsity volleyball team had two games and a tournament on their schedule this past week.  They lost 1-3 to Westbrook-Walnut Grove September 3 and lost 1-3 to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s September 5.  The Tigers played well in the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Tournament last Saturday going 4-1 on the day and capturing the first place title.

This week, the Tigers travel to Fulda on Tuesday, September 10 and the Winthrop to meet GFW on Thursday, September 12.  Best of luck to Head Coach Tiffany Pierson and the entire volleyball squad in action this week!

The Tigers traveled to Westbrook last Tuesday for a non-conference match with Westbrook-Walnut Grove.  Springfield lost 1-3 to the Falcons in four matches 12-25, 22-25, 25-19 and 23-25.

In Tiger action, Rande Streich had 5 digs and 11 receptions while Eva Mark was 9/9 serving with 26 set assists, 1 kill, 4 blocks and 11 digs.  Maddy Digmann had 12 digs and 13 receptions while Kora Wahl was 12/13 serving with 8 kills, 5 blocks, 11 digs and 13 receptions.  Sydney Hauger had 2 kills, 7 blocks and 1 dig while Courtney Wendt was 13/13 serving with 3 aces, 6 kills, 3 blocks, 17 digs and 17 receptions.  Meriah Kirschstein was 15/16 serving with 4 aces, 7 kills, 2 blocks and 2 digs while Cylee Graff was 10/10 serving with 2 aces, 8 kills, 3 blocks and 5 digs.  Mya Mickelson was 22/22 serving with 5 aces, 6 digs and 12 receptions.

The Tigers played host to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s last Thursday evening.  The Tigers lost to the Knights 1-3 in four matches 19-25, 25-22, 20-25 and 22-25.

In Tiger action, Rande Streich had 8 digs and 18 receptions while Eva Mark was 10/10 serving with 1 ace, 35 set assists, 2 blocks and 8 digs.  Maddy Digmann had 7 digs and 8 receptions while Kora Wahl was 10/11 serving with 1 ace, 13 kills, 5 set assists, 5 blocks, 26 digs and 10 receptions.  Sydney Hauger had 4 kills, 5 blocks, 1 set assist and 1 reception while Courtney Wendt was  14/14 serving with 1 ace, 15 kills, 1 block, 14 digs and 18 receptions.  Meriah Kirschstein was 2/4 serving with 4 digs and 6 receptions while Ashlyn Rosenau had 2 digs and 6 receptions.  Taylor Augustin was 11/12 serving with 2 kills, 2 blocks and 3 digs while Cylee Graff was 12/13 serving with 1 ace, 12 kills, 1 block, 9 digs and 16 receptions.  Mya Mickelson was 18/19 serving with 3 aces, 16 digs and 12 receptions for the Tigers.

 

WWG Tournament (4-1)

The Tigers competed in the Westbrook-Walnut Grove tournament last Saturday.  Springfield was 4-1 at the tourney, capturing the first place title!  Congratulations to Coach Pierson and the whole squad on a great showing at the tournament. 

The Tigers won 2-1 vs. Dawson-Boyd (25-20, 18-25, 15-10), lost 0-2 vs. GFW (18-25, 24-26), won 2-1 vs. New Ulm Cathedral (25-23, 21-25, 15-7), won 2-0 vs. Mankato Loyola (25-18, 25-15) and won 2-0 vs. Westbrook-Walnut Grove (25-21, 25-20).

In Tiger team tournament action, Eva Mark had 88 set assists, 4 kills and 45 digs while Kora Wahl was 48/51 serving with 8 aces, 27 kills, 12 blocks and 61 digs.  Sydney Hauger had 12 kills, 9 blocks and 11 digs while Meriah Kirschstein was 17/20 serving with 3 kills and 6 digs.  Taylor Augustin had 1 kill, 1 block and 3 digs while Mya Mickelson was 37/37 serving with 2 aces, 20 kills, 1 block and 48 digs.  Rande Streich had 2 digs while Cylee Graff was 22/24 serving with 1 ace, 35 kills, 2 blocks and 43 digs.  Courtney Wendt was 46/49 serving with 2 aces, 26 kills, 4 blocks and 38 digs while Anna Mattson was 31/32 serving with 3 aces, 4 kills, 1 block and 22 digs.  Ashlyn Rosenau was 1/2 serving with 1 ace while Kennedy Groebner had 2 digs.  Tori Roiger was 41/42 serving with 7 aces, 9 set assists and 15 digs while teammate Maddy Digmann had 50 digs.
