Redwood County Fair begins with concert this evening

The Redwood County Fair opens Thursday for four big days, with pre-fair kick-off this evening with Slamabama, a country music duo-group from Birmingham, Alabama, that tours the United States playing major fairs and festivals.

The Exhibit Hall opens at 5 p.m. Thursday, and the midway opens at 6 o’clock.

Friday, July 10, is Daycare and Kids Day. 

For safety’s sake, it is advisable that all farmers and their families attend the presentation from ABS’s show, “In An Instant: Buried Alive” on Friday. Hear Arick Backer tell about the two hours he spent trapped in an 80,000-bushel grain bin. His incredible story has been feaured in Readers Digest, USA Today, ABC and more.   The presentation is sponsored by Harvest Land Cooperative and AgQuest Financial Services.  

The Guetter Brothers will perform their tenth anniversary “Big Air Bash” in the grandstand at 6 o’clock Friday.

Saturday events include the Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative’s baking contest featuring Rhubarb Dessert at 10 a.m.  The 4-H auction is scheduled for 1 o‘clock.  The Century Farms program will be held at 1:30 p.m. The Minnesota ‘Over-60’ Band will perform at 2 o’clock.   A Beanbag Tournament will be held starting at 1:30. The Demolition Derby will be at 5:00 at Redwood Speedway. A BBQ Cook-off will be held at 6:30.

The fair will windup Sunday, July 12, with a ecumenical service at 10:30 a.m., and KLGR  Talent Show at 2:00 p.m. 

Daily attractions include Merriam’s Midway, two stages of live bands, open class shows and exhibits, 4-H shows and exhibits, shows featuring the Old West, an Escape Artist, and the World’s Strongest Man.

Nightly entertainment includes the Arch Allies at 8 p.m. Thursday, Phil Vassar with guest Jacob Powell on Friday evening, and Logan Mize and Adam Sanders and 32 Below.
