Musician Curtis McMurtry coming here Monday evening
Curtis McMurtry, an up-and-coming musician, is coming to Springfield to present a concert at LeBon Entertainment and Event Center on Monday evening, April 3.
McMurtry’s been playing guitar since he was seven and wrote his first song about Godzilla and King Kong renouncing their evil ways.
The 26-year-old Texan has impeccable bonafides — he’s the son of Americana music legend James McMurtry, and was mentored and championed by the late great Guy Clark. But the songs on McMurtry’s new album The Hornet’s Nest might actually take more inspiration from his novelist -screenwriter grandfather Larry McMurtry.
“I describe my music as Americana because no one’s defined that genre enough that I’m boxed in. It fits,” says McMurtry. “Americana was all-country, but now it incorporates everything, from Aaron Copeland to jazz. Even when I have a trumpet player, I can still call it Americana.
The doors to LeBon Entertainment and Event Center open at 7:00. The concert will begin at 7:30.The musician will be doing two 45-minute sets with an intermission break in between. Food and beverages will be available throughout the evening. Donations will be taken at the door with suggested donations of $5 - $10 per person to support him as well as other events such as this in the future if there is enough interest.
