‘Home Free’ founder to do solo concert here Saturday evening
Chris Rupp, founder and musical director of the a cappella vocal band Home Free, is coming to Springfield to do a solo concert Saturday evening.
After 15 years, Rupp wanted to explore other avenues with his extensive musical abilities and background so he left Home Free. Now on his own, Chris says, “My solo work is best characterized as a hodgepodge of whatever my musical interests take me —from a classical fugue to country, from a pop song to folk song, incorporating additional elements like dance, staging and video effects.” He also has created a new musical group, 7th Avenue.
Rupp has collaborated with such artists as Kenny Rogers, The Oak Ridge Boys, Charlie Daniels, Kira Isabella, Taylor Davis, Peter Hollens, Nick Lachey, Jewel, Patrick Stump and Shawn Stockman. He has released his own solo album of original music, “Shine,” as well as a collection of classical piano pieces. His upcoming European Tour (March 23-31) will include performances in Germany, Sweden, England, Ireland and The Netherlands.
Chris performed in Springfield with Home Free in February 2013 and then returned for a Christmas Show in December 2013—two days before it was announced that the group won the “Sing Off” television competition.
Springfield Community Theatre is sponsoring the Chris Rupp concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4, in the Performing Arts Center at Springfield Public School. Advance sale tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the Springfield Advance-Press office (507-723-4225) or from any Community Theatre Board member.
