Magdalen Schwab, OSB

The Eucharist of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Sacred Heart Chapel, St. Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, for Sister Magdalen Schwab, 93, who died on Jan. 23, 2018, at St. Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud. Burial was in the monastery cemetery.

Magdalen Schwab, was born March 26, 1924, to Frank and Clara (Heiling) Schwab in Redwood Falls. She attended schools in Redwood Falls and Wabasso. She entered St. Benedict’s Monastery on Sept. 1, 1942. She taught in schools for many years.  In 1985, S. Magdalen and her sister, Mary Larsen, began coordinating the “We Care” program, that serves 11 counties, providing food, clothing and other necessities to families in need. She continued her connection with “We Care” after moving to St. Scholastica Convent in 2004. There she undertook a ministry caring for sick and retired sisters for several years, and then a special ministry of prayer and community living.
