Fern Wendland
Fern Wendland, 87, of Springfield, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Visitation Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield will continue today (Wednesday, Feb. 21) from 9:30 am until 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Tricia Mattson officiating. Inurnment will be at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.
Fern Marion Brinkman was born Nov. 8, 1930, in Ruttland Township, Trimont, Minnesota, to Herman and Alma (Bischoff) Brinkman. She was baptized on Dec. 24, 1930, in Trimont and confirmed in Sherburn. She began school in Welcome and in the third-grade transferred to Sherburn Public School from where she graduated from high school. Fern worked for 10 years in Mankato as a personal aide and nanny. On February 12, 1961, she married the dude from Dotson, Marvin Wendland, at St John Lutheran Church in Sherburn. They lived on the Wendland farm outside of Dotson where she helped milk cows, work the land and raised four children. The couple retired in 1993 and moved to a home in Springfield. Fern was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield, Minnesota and was an active member of Rebekah Circle,
she enjoyed quilting and visiting residents at the local nursing home.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Wendland of Springfield; children, Terri (Terry) Carson of Bradley, S.D., Dawn (Stuart) Walker of Rantoul, Ill., and Daniel (Jennifer) Wendland of Luverne; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Wendland of Arlington, S.D.; grandchildren, Robert Wendland, Kathryn Klumb, Brodrick Wendland, Andrew Walker, Simon Walker, Jonas Walker, Emily Wendland, Courtney Wendland, Harley Wendland; two great-grandchildren, Addison and Caleb Klumb; a siser, Arlene George of Sherburn; and brothers Merle Brinkman of Fairmont and Duane Brinkman of Hutchinson. She is preceded in death by her parents; infant brother; brother Marvin Brinkman and his wife Alta, brother Sylvan Brinkman
and his wife Delores, sister Sylvia Sheppard and her husband Harold, brother-in-law Leland George; and son, Keith Wendland.
