Rita A. Schmitz, 89, of Sleepy Eye died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Amy Schmitz, in Springfield.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, and interment was in the church cemetery.
Rita Anne (Bauman) Schmitz was born April 14, 1928, in Delano. She taught school, and married E. Peter Schmitz June 21, 1951. They moved to the Schmitz Homestead Farm east of Sleepy Eye where they operated a dairy farm and raised their family.
She is survived by 13 children, 49 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren.
