Dalores Selma Stern

Dalores Selma Stern, age 94, of Springfield, died peacefully surrounded by family on July 19, 2024, at Our Lady of Peace Hospice. 

Visitation will be on Sunday, July 28, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel and will continue on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield, MN. 

Service will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church on Monday at 11:00 a.m.  

The clergy will be Pastor Carl Billings. Interment will be at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Springfield, Minnesota.

Born and raised in Minnesota, she loved tending her garden and was happiest when fishing. She also loved hunting and was proud to have shot a moose. She was an active member of her church and enjoyed serving her community, canning, and quilting. She was president of the American Legion Post #257 for several years and was known to cater large events for veterans. Dalores enjoyed sewing quilts for friends and family and donated several hand-made blankets to the local food shelf. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Dalores graduated from high school in Comfrey, Minnesota. She attended Mankato State University for a year before caring for her ailing mother. She then taught for three years in a one room schoolhouse before marrying Elvin Stern. They went on to have one daughter, Desiree, and together they farmed the Stern family land. 

Dalores is survived by her brother-in-law Bill Hewitt, son-in-law Bill Nelson, granddaughter Amy (Chris Toonstra), and great-grandchildren Desiree and Arden Toonstra. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elvin, siblings Violet (Elmer) Kasten, David (Judy) Stern, Georgiana Hewitt, and daughter Desiree Nelson. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Our Lady of Peace Hospice.
