Sister Gladys Meindl

Sister Gladys Meindl, 96, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes in Rochester, Minnesota, died at Assisi Heights on July 19, 2026. 

Mary Gertrude Meindl was born December 9, 1929 in Springfield to John and Margaret (Roiger) Meindl.  She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1947, received the name of Sister Gladys, and made perpetual vows in 1953.

She dedicated her life in the ministry of education.  She taught in Glencoe, St. Kilian, Rochester, Winona, Tracy, Portsmouth, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois before coming to Springfield in 1970.  She served as a teacher and principal at St. Raphael Catholic School until 1986.  She then served St. Michael Catholic School in Morgan.

A Resurrection Liturgy will be held at Assisi Heights July 29 at 11 a.m. with burial at Calvary Cemetery.  For a live stream of the funeral, go to www.rochesterfranciscan.org.
