Donald John Peter Wilstermann
Donald John Peter Wilstermann, age 92, lifelong resident of Springfield, died Friday, July 26 at Diamond Willow Care Center in Detroit Lakes, MN. Donald was born on February 1, 1932 in Wanda, MN to Hans and Bertha (Kroening) Wilstermann.
Donald graduated from Springfield High School in 1949. Then he worked at Forester Furniture until enlisting in the Army in August, 1952. During his service Donald was awarded the “National Defense Service Medal”. He was discharged August, 1954 and continued to serve in the Army Reserve for eight more years. Donald met his wife Darlene Zoeller at the Onamia, MN Bible camp. They married June 12, 1955. The family welcomed baby girl Darla in 1963. Donald loved annual fishing trips to northern MN. You could watch Donald on KEYC-TV dancing the polka with Darlene on Saturday nights. Donald was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Rotary Club in Springfield.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and daughter. He is survived by his wife, son-in-law Jay Benusa and grandson Jayson both of Las Cruces, NM, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Donald was buried Monday, July 29 at the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN.
