Edna Mary Petersen

Edna Mary Petersen died on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN at the age of 88. 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. 

Edna Mary Petersen was born on January 31, 1938, in New Ulm, MN, the daughter of Meinrad and Emily (Flor) Portner. Edna was united in marriage to Ralph Petersen on November 26, 1957, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm, MN. Edna enjoyed 60 + years on the farm where she enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Edna and Ralph were Charter members of Morgan’s Levi’s and Lace Square Dancing Club for 40 years. She loved dancing, playing concertina, old time county music, crossword puzzles, sudoku, reading and watching Wheel of Fortune. She was long term member of the garden club and Concertina Club and was on the Springfield Community Center board. 

She is survived by her children – Dan (Corrine) Petersen, Tim (Kahla) Petersen, and Mary (Terry Root) Miller; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, and 3 sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband – Ralph in January of 2021; a sister; and a brother.
