Jimmy Don Lewis
Jimmy Don Lewis, 83, of Springfield, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2025.
Born on March 10, 1942, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to JD and Lorene (Wilkinson) Lewis, Jimmy lived a full and colorful life marked by hard work, creativity, laughter, and deep love for his family.
As a young man, Jimmy worked in his father’s gas stations and truck stops, where his strong work ethic began. He had a spirited love for boxing, golf, and racing, and a lifelong soft spot for animals. His family often talked about the many creatures he brought home as a boy—whether it was a stray dog, a monkey, or even a few baby alligators from the dime store.
Jimmy had many talents and trades throughout his life. He was a skilled jeweler, creating beautiful diamond rings and necklaces. He also had a gift for leatherwork, crafting detailed belts and artwork. His talents extended into painting houses and, later, running his own business. After moving to Minnesota, he and his wife, Mary, owned and operated JM Trucking, combining his love of driving with his entrepreneurial spirit. Jimmy also had a passion for travel—always behind the wheel—and cherished seeing the country from the road.
In his later years, Jimmy found joy in playing cards with friends and family, watching old westerns, and sharing his quick wit and contagious sense of humor. He had an uncanny ability to make people laugh through his charm and stories.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Mary; his children: Sherri (Dale) Lange, Bobby Lewis, Angela (Don) Cage, Bill Lewis (Kim), Frank Lewis, Travis Lewis, Sarah (Nic) Groebner, Trisha (Josh) Ludewig, and CW Lewis; grandchildren: Seth, Lorel, Blayne, Bethany, Reg, Ryan, Valarie, Addi, Desia, Dominic, Chase, Triston, Isabella, Bridgette, Ivan, Myles, and Vivian; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patricia Lloyd; and his grandson, Brendan Ervin.
Jimmy will be remembered for his boundless energy, generous heart, and ability to bring a smile to everyone he met.
