Lowell died unexpectedly and was found on Thursday evening, January 12, 2017, at his home in Springfield.

Lowell Frederick Meyer was the third son born to Fred and Alice (Rettke) Meyer.  He was born at the Fairmont Community Hospital in Fairmont, on September 6, 1950. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.

Lowell attended country school in rural Trimont until moving to Trimont Elementary School.  He graduated from Trimont High School in 1968.  While in High School, he was active in sports, especially basketball and baseball, including Junior Legion Baseball. After high school, he played town team baseball and softball. During the summer, he enjoyed coaching Little League teams in Trimont.  After high school, Lowell attended Jackson Vocational-Technical Institute, studying plumbing and heating. He was drafted into the US Army in January of 1970.  He served in Vietnam as a Medical Corpsman.  He received an Honorable Discharge in September 1971 at which time he returned to Trimont and found employment in Fairmont. In 1973, Lowell moved to Springfiel, and took a job as a mechanic at Potter’s Garage, then with Hap Ouverson Motors, which was bought by Kohls-Weelborg Chevrolet.  He then became employed by Kohls-Weelborg in their New Ulm facility. Lowell was a champion bowler as demonstrated by his many trophies in league bowling.  He was an active member of American Legion Post 257 in Springfield. He was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.

Left to mourn are two brothers, Roger (Janet) Meyer of Ham Lake, and Keith Meyer of Trimont; and sister-in-law, Becky Meyer of Grand Blanc, Mich.  He had four nieces and  one nephew, one step-nephew and one step-niece, all of whom he cherished dearly.  He also leaves behind many friends from Trimont and Springfield, especially his bowling buddies and the gang at the Outlaws Bar and Grill.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his beloved brother, Gary Meyer, and sister-in-law, LeaAnn Meyer.

Rest in peace, our dear brother.
