Marie Utz

Mass of Christian Burial for Marie Utz, 82, of Vining, formerly of Springfield, was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 28, at St. Raphael Catholic Church with The Rev. Phil Schotzko officiating.  Interment was in St. Raphael Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Utz passed away peacefully in her home in Vining on Monday, July 24, 2017.

Marie Betty Fromm was born Nov. 27, 1934, to Leo and Elizabeth (Brieganzer) Fromm. Marie attended country school until sixth-grade and graduated from Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s High School. Marie was united in marriage on April 27, 1963, to John Edwin Utz. John and Marie made their home in Springfield, where they raised their four children, Patrick, Laureen, Darla, and Daniel. Marie worked at Dr. Tessien’s office as an aide for much of her adult life and at Del Monte foods during the summer seasons. Following that, she worked several years at The Rainbow and Gene’s Café. Upon retirement in 2002, John and Marie moved to Vining.  Marie loved watching the Minnesota Vikings and Nascar (Jeff Gordon was her favorite driver), crocheting, gardening, tending to her famous yellow marigolds, canning, listening to old time music, and most of all, spending time with her family. While she battled dementia for the past decade, Marie’s kind heart and fiery spirit never wavered. She will be deeply missed by her loved ones and all the lives she touched.

Marie is survived by her husband John Utz of Vining; son, Patrick Utz of Becker, and  grandchildren, Marissa and Joseph; daughter, Laureen Utz, (Riyadh) of Saudia Arabia, and grandchildren Kamal, Maryam, Annesah, Mujahid, Emaan and Muhammad; daughter, Darla Portner (Daniel) of Springfield, and grandchildren, Brittany, Brianna and Alexander; son, Daniel Streich (Jackie) of Springfield, and grandchildren Alexis, Taylar, Mitchell, Allyson and Ely; great-grandchildren, Levi and Jace; brother, Jerry Fromm; sister-in-law. Marilyn Fromm; sisters-in-law, Lois Fromm, Lois Cleary, and Judy Fox; along with many nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Elizabeth Fromm; stepfather, Adolph Stage; parents-in-law, Joseph and Rosella Utz; sister, Shirley Streich; brothers, Herbert and Marvin Fromm; brothers-in-law, Clifford Streich, Frank Marz, Richard Donahue, John Cleary and Clete Utz; and sisters-in-law, Pat Marz, Patricia Fromm and Kathy Utz.
