March is Music in our Schools Month Thoughts from the music instructor
For forty plus years, March has been officially designated as Music in Our Schools Month by the National Association for Music Education. It is the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation. It gives music teachers the opportunity to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and community.
Music is alive in our local schools. We asked Mr. Bailey Cords, music instructor and director of the High School Choir at Springfield Public School, to share some thoughts about the importance of music in his life and at the school.
Mr. Cords is in his sixth year of teaching music at Springfield Public School. He believes that music is “food for the soul” and brings that belief into his classroom every day. “Music is something you can do as a small child all the way until the end of your life. Every emotion comes out when you are surrounded by music. There are times of sadness, times of excitement, times of joy—every emotion you can imagine and have can be shared through music,” he said in a recent interview. “Music will be with you forever, whether it’s singing, playing an instrument or just listening,” he added.
He believes that music is important to students at every level.
